Explore the Connection ...

Discover the power of the horse-human connection and join us for an afternoon of peace, mindfulness, and enchantment while learning about the art of relationship-based horsemanship and equine healing right here in the Hudson Valley.

"This experience is ahead of it's time ... which says more about our society than how things should be. That is to say Heather's approach to horsemanship is how it should be. She has reverence for the privilege of being with horses, which literally brought tears to the participant's eyes. Two of us participated in this experience. We both left very inspired to think about a different way of living."

- Mimi O.

Horses are some of Nature’s most powerful teachers. Their natural reflective tendencies and high level of energetic awareness can help us sharpen our senses and develop our intuition.

When we quiet our minds enough to perceive the subtle ways the horses respond to our behaviors, we can then respond to them with equal sensitivity. In the horse world, this is referred to as Feel. We begin to understand why our energetic awareness is important and how we can use this knowledge to live better lives.

Reimagine Horsemanship Equine Wellness Center

Reimagine Horsemanship is a rehabilitation center for troubled horses. We use Relationship=Based Horsemanship to reset how horses feel about humans, and then re-educate them so they can stay safe and healthy in the human world. The fact of the matter is that in order to build HEALTHY, working relationships with horses, we need to communicate with them in a way that makes sense to them. And to be capable of doing that, we MUST practice mindfulness.

Mindful Horsemanship

Meditation is known to be a highly effective means of managing our physical, emotional, and mental health and wellness. Meditation is also notorious for being very difficult for most people to practice. The human mind tends to drift and our river of thought pulls our consciousness into its raging current. Mindfulness meditation is the practice of holding our awareness on a sensory stimulus rather than being lost in thought.

Horses give us a practical reason to remain mindful. They are large, sensitive flight and prey animals that are acutely aware of their surroundings. In order to work with them safely, and without desensitizing them, we must remain connected to what they connect to. This means we need to generate higher levels of awareness than is typically necessary for modern human survival.

Relationship-based horsemanship requires us to become attuned to what horses are attuned to. We need to learn how to read them and develop the ability to synchronize with them in their neutral state. And then to initiate effective communication with them, we need to BECOME WHAT they are attuned to.

The mindfulness state that one must sustain when practicing the art of horse whispering can help us develop control of our compulsions, regulate our emotions, and learn how to monitor and manage the effects we have on the world around us. In order to communicate effectively with horses without causing them fear, we must remain receptive to our senses and in control of our energy. This level of awareness draws us into a mindfulness state. Check out our blog for more information on how horses can help us with our own personal development and growth.

Going Inward (Level 1)

Our Introductory Level 1 Retreat introduces key mindfulness concepts used in horse whispering. Participants will focus on observational skills and heightening awareness through their visual and auditory senses to become more attuned to what the horse is perceiving. Our demo will focus specifically on the use of subtle energetic applications and releases to draw the horse's attention to the handler. For more information on this concept, view our blog post on "The Reflective Tendencies of Horses".

Developing Feel (Level 2)

The Level 2 Retreat involves hands-on activities with the horses, and concentrates on the concept of "Feel".  Participants will focus on mindfulness activities involving their sense of touch. They will learn how to obtain energetic consent from the horse and then combine acute levels of awareness with touch and release to connect with a horse during grooming. Our demo will focus on the energetic connection that can be established with a horse by "feeling" our way through the interaction. For further information on the concept of "Feel", view our blog post "What is Feel"?.

Energetic Awareness (Level 3)

The Level 3 retreat will introduce participants to seven key energy centers in the human body commonly referred to as chakras. Our guided meditation will help participants identify and understand their own column of energy. Our demo will show how skilled use of our chakra system can influence the horse's movement. Energy is the natural language of the horse. To learn more, view our blog post on "Building Language with Horses Through Binary Code".

  • Upon arrival, settle in and soak up the serene energy of the farm. Our head trainer will be working quietly on her rehabilitation cases throughout the afternoon and you are welcome to sit in and watch the process as much as you like during your visit.

  • Continue to enjoy the atmosphere or walk our bridle paths at your own pace until we join up for some equine-related mindfulness activities that introduce the key concepts we use to generate connection with horses.

  • Enjoy a tour of our facility and learn about each horses story before our silent Nature walk around the pastures. We'll then begin a very special horse whispering demonstration in our round pen.

  • Stay past sunset and sit around the bonfire with us for refreshments, star gazing, and some great conversation.

We are located approximately 1.5 hours outside NYC in Poughquag, NY.  Retreats are booked on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Each level is 3-4 hours is duration. Small groups only. Space is very limited. $175 per person per level.

For further details, questions, or other ways to book feel free to reach out to our amazing friend and hostess Kelly Kirby.
